SUMMARY:Towards a holistic accountability framework for Syria: Is it possible?
DESCRIPTION:A side event to the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva\nAs Syria transitions beyond the Assad regime\, the country faces multiple international and national justice mechanisms created to address human rights violations and war crimes committed during the conflict. These include the UN Commission of Inquiry (COI)\, Independent Institution for Missing Persons (IIMP)\, ICC\, ICJ case on torture\, OPCW investigations\, and OHCHR’s new presence in Damascus. \nWith the new Syrian government expressing readiness to cooperate with international mechanisms\, this event will explore the feasibility of consolidating these mechanisms into a structured framework.
