Launch of the Gender Justice Practitioner Hub (GJPHub)

On December 4, Legal Action Worldwide and its partners launched the Gender Justice Practitioner Hub.
Thank you to everyone who attended and who has supported the GJP Hub initiative so far.

An All-Star panel of speakers provided support, motivation, ambition, reflections, recommendations and foresight to launch the GJP Hub.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Greg French underscored the importance of gender justice efforts, reminding the audience that gender equality remains the number one predictor for peace.

🔸 Keynote speaker, Michelle Jarvis reflected on her career – the progress made and the challenges faced in fighting for gender justice – highlighting the need for an organisation like the GJP Hub to ensure access to existing experience and resources, as well as a platform for collaboration and support.
🔸 Patricia Sellers, Special Advisor for Slavery Crimes for the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, delivered remarks from ICC Deputy Prosecutor Nazhat Shameem Khan – who congratulated the GJP Hub on its launch and commended the Hub’s inclusion of intersectionality, and an anti-racist, feminist and a decolonial approach in its foundational principles.
🔸 LAW’s Antonia Mulvey, who chaired proceedings, outlined the extensive, collaborative research that underpins the foundation of the GJP Hub.
🔸 Emphasising the need for a new, inclusive approach to justice, Priya Gopalan pointed to the need for a constellation of actors working together, coordinating to ensure the totemic advances in gender justice in recent decades are defended.
🔸 Reflecting on the work of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace in Colombia, Alexandra Sandoval Mantilla delivered crucial reflections, opportunities and recommendations for the Hub as it begins its work.
🔸 ICTJ’s Sarah Kihika Kasande provided her experience in national courts jurisdictions and highlighted the vital issue of reparations for survivors.

What a fantastic way to bring the GJP Hub into being.

The ambitions for the GJP Hub are high – but with the support of all of you, we are certain they can be achieved.

Particular thanks to Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Australian Embassy in the Netherlands for hosting the launch!
