Gender Equality & GBV
Gender inequality sits underneath most of the violations LAW works on representing survivors of sexual and gender based violence in individual cases, and challenging the laws, procedures and attitudes that made those cases possible.
That means drafting legislation, filing communications against states that failed to protect women and girls, training police and prosecutors, and building networks of lawyers who can take these cases on. It also means insisting that women, men, girls, boys and LGBTQI+ people experience violence differently and need responses built around that difference. LAW’s approach is explicitly feminist and intersectional, because cycles of violence continue wherever gender discrimination goes unaddressed.
