In fragile and conflict-affected settings across 18 countries in 4 main geographical areas, LAW works alongside survivors and local partners to confront impunity and build justice that endures.
Rohingya Crisis
LAW provides legal representation and assistance to over 500 Rohingya survivors and witnesses in proceedings including The Gambia v. Myanmar at the International Court of Justice, the ICC investigation, and the universal jurisdiction case before an Argentinian federal court.

Lebanon
LAW works where Lebanon's legal protection framework is weakest: for migrant domestic workers trapped in the Kafala system, for LGBTQI+ people and stateless individuals, for the families of those killed and injured in the Beirut port explosion, and for the relatives of people forcibly disappeared during the civil wars.

Sudan
LAW's Sudan programme works to bridge that gap by centring survivor agency, strengthening documentation for future accountability processes, and integrating legal support with psychosocial and medical care.

The programme supports three survivor networks, provides technical assistance and capacity building to civil society representatives and human rights defenders, and works with survivors to open concrete routes to accountability outside a domestic system that offers them none.

Syria
LAW opened an office in Damascus, runs mobile justice units in Aleppo and Idlib governorates, and has shifted its legal strategy toward the protection needs of a country in transition while working to safeguard the evidence that future accountability will depend on.

In South Sudan, LAW has worked with survivors, national partners and justice institutions to pursue accountability for gendered crimes, and has built partnerships with eight national civil society organisations.

Northern Ethiopia & Tigray
LAW represents Tigrayan victims and witnesses of the conflict and has built the two most significant legal avenues open to them: a communication against the state of Ethiopia before the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights, and a criminal complaint in Germany against named officials.

In Sri Lanka, LAW has since 2017 focused on making a slow and overburdened justice system work for survivors of sexual and gender based violence and child abuse.

LAW coordinates a women led consortium including JurFem, OPORA and PROJECTOR providing legal assistance and representation across the country, with a particular focus on survivors of sexual and gender based violence.

LAW represents Palestinians who have experienced serious violations before judicial fora, provides legal support to aid workers, children and victims of corporate misconduct, and trains lawyers and activists to document violations and build cases.
