Accountability & Rule of Law
Accountability & Rule of Law
Impunity is one of the conditions that allows atrocity to continue. Where those most responsible are never named, investigated or tried, the same crimes recur, often against the same communities.
LAW works to close that gap, whoever the perpetrator is: state actors, military actors, armed groups, private individuals or corporate entities. It brings cases in domestic, regional and international courts, supports national authorities to investigate and prosecute serious crimes, and builds internal and international pressure for independent investigations. Alongside litigation, LAW makes regular submissions to UN treaty bodies, the Human Rights Council and the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, so that the legal arguments developed in individual cases shape how these crimes are understood more broadly.
