Syria and the International Justice System

18 January 2024 – 19 January 2024

Hotel Bristol Berlin, Berlin

This workshop supports an in-depth look at the principal organs of the international justice system, avenues that many Syrian legal practitioners and human rights defenders have considered inaccessible until now. It will provide participants with the opportunity to hear from international legal experts and practitioners with first-hand experience representing clients’ interests before the world’s highest courts. They will learn, for example, about LAW’s support to Rohingya survivors, including collecting evidence for use in a memorial to the ICJ and conducting analysis to strengthen the Gambia’s case against Myanmar, as well the yearslong effort by a group of human rights lawyers and organisations to secure an ICC investigation. Equipped with practical knowledge of the functioning of the courts, participants will take the lead in workshopping a Syrian-led agenda for international justice.

A Workshop organized and hosted by Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) with the support of the European Union.

This is a closed workshop, only open to invited participants.
