Programme Coordinator - South Sudan, Sudan and Somalia
LAW Seeks an enthusiastic Programme Coordinator to work closely and collaboratively with Programme Managers and partners, playing a crucial role in the implementation of key projects across Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan programmes. The role includes supporting capacity-building initiatives, such as training, and the implementation of evidence-based interventions, while ensuring a gender-sensitive and trauma-informed approach throughout programme delivery.
About LAW
Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) is an independent non-profit association comprised of human rights lawyers and jurists united in our belief that those who have experienced human rights violations and international crimes should receive targeted, survivor-centred, gender-competent and trauma-informed support to access the justice they deserve. LAW’s team operates on the ground in conflict-affected contexts combining national and international expertise. We work directly with survivors and their communities, building their capacity to meaningfully engage with justice and advocacy processes. Alongside this, we provide technical assistance to strengthen justice institutions to ensure they are equipped to deliver justice and work with legislators to promote accountability and the rule of law.
Across 18 countries, LAW implements creative accountability and justice strategies, including strategic litigation at national, regional and international levels. LAW’s South Sudan, Sudan and Somalia Programmes
In South Sudan, Sudan and Somalia, we represent survivors and victims of human rights violations, including gender-based violence, in ground-breaking case files. We work closely with national partners and lawyers on domestic and international litigation, on implementing survivor-centered approaches to transitional and transformative justice, and on advancing gender equality through legal aid and legislation.
The Position
You will work closely and in collaboration with the Programme Managers and partners playing a crucial role. Key projects will include capacity building, such as training, and implementation of evidence-based interventions across Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan programmes, while ensuring a gender-sensitive and trauma-informed approach.
More About this Position
Where? The position will be based at LAW’s office in Nairobi, Kenya. Only candidates with the legal right to work in Kenya will be considered.
Duration? This position is funded and available for 12 months on a full-time basis with the possibility to be extended subject to funding.
Salary: KES 3,660,000 to KES 3,780,000 a year (based on experience) plus benefits.
More detail: You’ll provide comprehensive support to the Programme Manager across all activities. and advocate passionately for LAW’s programme to diverse audiences. Travel to the regions will be required.
The post holder will perform duties in accordance with the responsibilities outlined below:
Programmatic
- Support and coordinate with the project team(s) to ensure high quality programming activities including awareness and advocacy with gender-sensitive and trauma-informed approach.
- Engage with national, humanitarian and other relevant stakeholders to advance the programme’s goals and informed protection delivery especially for GBV survivors.
- Support capacity building and training of LAW’s network of civil society organisations and identify avenues for innovative learning opportunities.
- Conduct participatory research, surveys, for the implementation of evidence-based programming.
- Support the Programme Manager with implementation of MEL activities and use of M&E tools to record information.
- Contribute to drafting narrative reporting and liaise with partners to ensure timely reporting.
- Organise regular strategy and coordination meetings, internally and with partners.
- Compile and analyse global indicators for monthly reporting.
- Provide operational support in compliance with LAW policies ensuring planning, financial monitoring, M&E, and safeguarding for implementation.
Communications
- Maintain communication with partners, track and review their work, and make recommendations on how to improve coordination and joint activities.
- Participate in coordination group meetings and workshops to identify avenues for knowledge-sharing and coordination for interventions, especially on GBV prevention.
Fundraising
- Draft concept notes to expand LAW’s programmes in the region.
- Support the review, evaluation and the production of impact reports, and drafting donor reports.
Any other duties as specified by the Programme Manager or LAW’s Senior Management Team.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in law, human rights, international law or related field.
- Minimum 5 years relevant professional experience, with a focus on international criminal law, or international human rights law, or refugee law.
- At least 4 years’ experience managing projects and programmes within the humanitarian and development sector, including project planning and implementation.
- Essential experience working with vulnerable individuals, including victims and survivors of gender-based violence.
- Proven track record of working with national civil society organisations in fragile or restricted civic space contexts,
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in implementing protection interventions, conducting interviews with at-risk communities and gender programming is preferred.
- Experience establishing and maintaining effective partnerships in the region or international NGOs, as well as government institutions is desirable.
- Demonstrated experience managing programme expenditures, overseeing compliance procedures, or undertaking logistical, security duties.
- Strong ability to manage a variable workload, maintain attention to detail, and meet tight deadlines.
- Fluency in English and Arabic is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and strong technical literacy.
