Annual Report 2025
2025 has tested the international community’s commitment to human rights, gender equality and international law like never before.
As conflicts intensified and attacks on international justice mechanisms continued, survivors faced significant barriers to accountability. Yet across some of the world’s most challenging contexts, victims, survivors, human rights defenders, and legal advocates refused to give up their fight for justice.
Throughout the year, LAW, together with our partners and survivor communities, worked from the frontlines to the courtrooms across 18 countries, including Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka. From supporting survivors of conflict-related sexual violence and modern slavery, to advancing landmark accountability cases and defending humanitarian workers, our teams continued to transform legal rights into tangible outcomes.
Some of our key achievements in 2025 were to support Syria’s transitional justice efforts; to help prepare Rohingya survivors to testify before the International Court of Justice for the first time; to secure precedent-setting legal victories in Ukraine; to accompany a victim in a first ever case of slavery under Kafala system in Lebanon; and to expand access to justice for survivors in Sudan and Myanmar.
In 2025, our global programmes also broke new ground. The aid workers programme – the only one of its kind – provided legal advice and representation to 94 humanitarians and their relatives across 13 countries. We also secured the release of 16 people detained for their humanitarian work.
Despite the many challenges, 2025 demonstrated that international law is alive and fighting. LAW secured 109 favourable decisions in courts, supported hundreds of survivors in their pursuit of justice, and continued to advance innovative legal strategies to challenge impunity around the world.
Our Annual Report tells the stories behind these achievements and the courageous individuals who made them possible. Above all, it is a testament to the resilience, leadership, and determination of survivors whose voices continue to drive the fight for a more just world.
