“Disrupting international crimes in Sudan: Views from the front lines”

A side event to the Assembly of States Parties of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague

On 4 December 2023, LAW was delighted to participate in “Disrupting international crimes in Sudan: Views from the front lines,” a side event to the Assembly of States Parties of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, hosted by the Wayamo Foundation, in collaboration with Germany.
LAW’s executive director, Antonia Mulvey, spoke alongside, Rashid Ahmine (Director of Public Prosecutions, Mauritius), Hala Alkarib, (Regional Director, Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) Network), Yasmin Chubin, (Legal Advocacy Director, Clooney Foundation for Justice), Mikel Delagrange, (Senior International Legal Advisor, Wayamo Foundation) and Pubudu Sachithanandan, (Head of Unified Team at the Office of the Prosecutor, International Criminal Court). The panel was chaired by Mark Kersten (Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, University Fraser Valley, Canada and Senior Consultant, Wayamo Foundation).
The panellists outlined how the novel application of complementarity efforts, emerging forms of evidence collection, financial investigations and the regional application of universal jurisdiction, can contribute to stemming the perpetration of atrocities and frustrating perpetrators of international crimes, with a particular focus on the Sudanese context.
