Paving the way for accountability, truth, and reconciliation: a trust fund for victims of violence in Myanmar 

Roundtable Discussion during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79)  

This roundtable discussion aims to initiate a dialogue to identify pathways for securing reparative measures for the victims of grave human rights violations and international crimes in Myanmar whilst the legal proceedings and investigations are underway. The discussion will explore the opportune role of the UNGA in steering the current accountability discourse away from punitive justice towards transformative justice through establishing a trust fund.

Key speakers will include:

  • Hon’ble Dawda A. Jallow, Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Republic of The Gambia
  • Ambassador Beth Van Schaack, Ambassador-at-Large for Global Criminal Justice, U.S. Department of State
  • Aung Kyaw Moe, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Human Rights, National Unity Government
